    2009 House Bill 144 (2009 Tax Increase Bill)

    Introduced in the House on January 8, 2009, to increase excise taxes per pack on cigarettes by 30 cents, and double the wholesale taxation other tobacco products. The bill also requires a floor stock tax on cigarettes, other tobacco products, or snuff inventory at 11:59 p.m. on March 31, 2009. The bill also removes the exemption for sales and use tax purposes from the gross receipts derived from the sale of distilled spirits, wine, and malt beverages not consumed on the premises. The bill will become Kentucky law immediately upon approval by the Governor

    The vote was 66 in favor, 34 opposed and 0 not voting

     Bad move.  This is going to kill Northern KY business.  But politicos don't care.  Have no clue what economic landscape of NKY is.  Just think money is going to keep coming in.  I think the money train is about to run out.

    You're exactly right.  But Frankfort isn't exactly overflowing with intelligence. 

    I can't wait until we see a net loss in Frankfort over these tax increases, not to mention an even greater increase in unemployment as well. You'll see the politicians bemoaning the even greater "loss" of revenue and they'll raise taxes on everything else again, repeating the cycle and continuing to wonder why revenues keep going down, along with the level of employment.
