1) pizzedinky [by Anonymous Citizen on August 12, 2008] do you play golf? Ky owns around 19 golf courses around the state. I dont play golf and I am really perturbed about paying taxes for the damm things for others to play golf. I would like to fly. Take my golf course tax and stick it into aviation. I'll be happy. 2) Prove it! [by Cavalrymen on March 26, 2008] After researching the self-sustaining record of airports, 14 of them here in KY, I found not one was self sustaining. All received Federal and/or State and/or County tax monies to maintain operations. Remove aircraft property taxes and more monies will be taken from other government endeavors to support airports. By the way, others have posted examples of beneficial economic activity (purchase of fuel for example) if planes are located at KY airports rather than outside the state. I question that result. Pilots will purchase fuel where it is the cheapest. If you could save $75.00 per tank fuel would you fly 15 minutes to get it and then land at "your" airport? I know pilots who do just that. Reply
3) Prove it! [by Anonymous Citizen on March 26, 2008] I am tired of hearing that airports generate economic gains for the local community. Prove it! Of 14 KY airports checked recently all but one received tax monies from the state and local (county) govenrments to maintain operations. They are a liability on local governments and the state. Particularly in this time of tight budgets. By the way the 14th (Bowman field) was subsidized by the Federal government to meet operational costs. Why should a select few, who are already being subsidized by government be allowed even more preferred treatment from taxation? Reply
