Great move! If you can couple that with an increase in max jurisdiction of District Court to $20,000.00 and make that the Circuit Court minimum, then we'd be modernizing. Also, I'd like to see rent recovery become part of the Forcible Detainer judgment.

Another welcome change would be the ability to obtain some injunctive relief in the form of no contact civil orders in District Court when the matter involves personal harrassment (but isn't necessarily domestic and doesn't rise to criminal behavior).

Why has this been languishing in the legislature when it is such a common sense initiative. The fact that this would considerably lighten the load in circuit court should be apparent. Folks, this is 2008 and there are no longer 5 cent cokes. Sad to say but $1500 just isn't that much money anymore.
