All Courthouses in Kentucky are financed by State Government through the Administrative Office of the Courts.

The Courthouse in Campbell County is in Newport. However, the Courthouse Commission taxes only residents of the Campbell County cities of Newport, Dayton, Bellevue, Southgate and Wilder.

Campbell County residents of Alexandria, Cold Spring and the southern part of Campbell County benefit from the Courthouse but are not paying taxes to support it.

Additionally, the Courthouse Commission has three or four commissioners paid $10,000 a year plus health insurance for 12 meetings a year.

In the past 10 years the Campbell County Courthouse Commission has raised $800,000 a year with expenses estimated at $140,000 year. Where is the $6 million and what is being done with it???

3) is the law still there? [by Anonymous Citizen on December 26, 2007]
Is the law that requires the courthouse to be within one day's ride of anywhere else in the county still in effect? If so, we need to move the courthouse functions in Newport back to Alexandria and close Newport.

instead of taking up legislature's time with such frivilous legislation, begin addressing STATE'S FINANCIAL CHAOS!

Begin by undoing what past legislaturs and administration have not done---address obsolete tax base and cut expenses while raising revenues up to cover state expenses.

Don't repeat the 1975 TILL THROUGH 2000 PERIOD WHEN ADMINISTRATIONS AND GENERAL ASSEMBLIES ACQUIESTED TO COVER GENERAL FUND DEFICITS THROUGH RAIDING ROAD FUND RATHER THAN RAISE TAXES OR MODERNIZE TAX BASE. THEY CONTINUED "CREDIT CARD MENTALITY" SPENDING, WITH AVERAGE GROWTH RATE OF APPROPRIATIONS RUNNING 6% WHILE AVERAGE GROWTH RATE OF REVENUES WERE 5.3%. THIS DID NOT STOP LEGISLATORS FROM EMBELLISHING STATE EMPLOYEES WITH AN INVIOLATE RETIREMENT CONTRACT NOW BILLIONS IN ARREARS.
FROM 2000 TILL 2007 THE "CREDIT CARD MENTALITY" STILL ALIVE AND WELL. HOWEVER, MEDICAID HAS $389 MILLION DEFICIT, NEEDING $112 MILLION FROM STATE; STATE DEBT $700 MILLION, BONDED INDEBTEDNESS IS $4.2 BILLION AND STATE TAX EXPENDITURES HOVERING AROUND $750,000,000!

WHY NOT BEGIN BY ADDRESSING REDUCING THE THREE QUARTERS OF A BILLION DOLLARS OF KENTUCKY'S STATE TAX EXPENDITURES?
