1) Which way does this go? [by newmark on December 14, 2006]
Does this law *allow* insurers to insure safety pool covers, or does this law *force* insurers to insure safety pool covers?

I'm not sure, based upon the language of the law. It seems like it's forcing insurers to insure. This seems like a bad idea.

Kentucky has played with "requiring" insurers to do things in the past. It lead to our continuing health care debacle in this state.

Please don't require insurers to do anything. Please let the market take care of this.

2) This will increase insurance rates [by JGault on December 13, 2006]
Pools can be used with an enclosure in place and secured, but a pool cannot be used with a 'cover' in place. A cover only provides protection while it is actually covering the pool. This bill will raise insurance rates for those homeowners that have provided a safe enclosure for their pool to subsidize those who are unwilling to install a fence.
