2007 House Bill 33 (Require state contractors to verify worker eligibility)

  • Introduced by Rep. Melvin Henley on January 2, 2007, to require, as a condition for being awarded a state contract, that a person, contractor, or subcontractor is registered and participating in a federal work authorization program to verify employment eligibility of employees pursuant to the federal Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. The bill would require a fine of $4,000 for violation. The bill also would provide that violation shall be grounds for cancellation of contract and disqualification for future contracts for 5 years.

HB 33 is a no brainer and it hasn't even been allowed on the floor of the House. Tennessee passed a law just like this last year. Come on legislature, join the 21st century. Taxpayers shouldn't have to support illegal alens!!
