2006 House Bill 114 (Clarify proper uses of eminent domain)

Introduced by Rep. Rob Wilkey (D) on January 3, 2006, to clarify the legal and illegal uses of eminent domain. The bill declares "public use" and not "public purpose" as the correct terminology in relation to eminent domain. The bill also would require that commissioners appointed to value property in eminent domain cases be real estate appraisers or realtors and to create a mechanism for their selection.

This is a bill the Kentucky League of Cities would love! Remember, they are the group that said in testimony beofre the Interm Joint Committee on the Judiciary,"But that's how we make our monsy!", in reference to taking the property of the citizens of Kentucky. In other words, they take your property, give you "just compensation" for it and then make money off of the deal. Do you smell something rotten here? They are certainly not working for the citizens of Kentucky,now are they!

This is nothing more than a League of Cities bill. Any bill involving the League of Cities concerning our property as citizens or land owners is not good for the citizen. The League said during the April hearings when asking that there not be any changes to Kentucky Eminent Domain laws "....this is how we make our money" should tell all land owners in Kentucky something about this bunch. Your land is not safe until they are prohibited by law from taking it. This is a very bad bill.
